The 161st Street Business Improvement District, a product of MBSCC and the 161st Street Merchant’s Association was signed into law May 2005.  It is committed to improving the community for those who live, work, visit and shop on 161st Street in the Bronx.  Our goal is to keep the streets clean, promote commerce and enrich the area through special events and cultural projects.

Mission

From human services to housing development, from economic revitalization to community empowerment, all the programs and initiatives of the Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council (MBSCC) are designed to accomplish the following goals:

  • To enhance the quality of life for residents of the South Bronx
  • To ensure they are afforded the opportunity for economic and social well-being that will enable them to remain in the community and live with dignity for themselves and their surroundings
  • To encourage them to become vocal, active and positive contributors to, and forces in their community

Freedman on the Concourse Guest Rooms

Situated just 20 minutes from New York's Times Square, yet nestled on a scenic avenue with quiet elegance, this charming, ten room guest house is the perfect escape after exploring the city's shops, museums and local parks.

Our delightful, 1920s themed rooms are elegantly restored and conveniently located on the historic Grand Concourse in the Bronx, just minutes from Yankee Stadium. Our lodging facility is part of the Andrew Freedman Complex Residential Integrated Culinary & Hospitality (RICH) Initiative, a 12 week, comprehensive program, designed to increase employability of local residents by professionally training and certifying participants in the hospitality and culinary trades.

In collaboration with The Bronx Arts Alliance, The Andrew Freedman played host to WeAre Still Here - Art in the Bronx, a recent exhibition that featured the work of 25 artists, representing 13 art organizations. The show also included two works by famed artist, Romare Bearden. The exhibit was part of a special Bronx Armory Show event, which ran in March 2013.
