In 2000, MBSCC began a strategic initiative to focus on teens and young adults, because we recognized that today’s youth have far too little support systems and outlets and too many distractions and negative impacts. Beginning with experiences learned from programs like the Youth Educational Employment and Empowerment Service (1995) and the Adolescent Vocational Exploration Program (1996), we created programs that provide unique services to teens and young adults.

- Mentoring & Volunteerism Opportunities
The Mid-Bronx Mentoring and Volunteerism Program currently has an ample roster of active volunteers, some of whom serve as mentors in our after-school Homework Help Program. Other members of our volunteer team provide assistance with our food pantry, thrift shop, senior citizen programs, Head Start and Early Childhood Center and the Job Resource Center. It is also the policy of Mid-Bronx to hire our high school program participants as junior counselors in our Summer Day Camp.
We follow the required State Central Registry Check and Finger Printing System. Our volunteers and mentors run the spectrum from high school or college students to retirees, formally employed in both private and public sector jobs.

This Side of Paradise
Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council (MBSCC), one of the leading, not-for-profit, community development organizations in the Bronx recently hosted the exciting art exhibition, This Side of Paradise at the majestic Andrew Freedman on the Grand Concourse. The innovative show was curated by the art group, No Longer Empty and it showcased the works of 32 artists on the first and second floors of the palatial Andrew Freedman. Interactive, community-driven programming, panel discussions and electric dance performances rounded out this creative collaboration which ran through June 5th.
