MBSCC provides an array of social services designed to increase the stability and self sufficiency of families in our community. We were the pre-eminent service provider to seniors in the Bronx throughout the 70s, and the driving force in building community coalitions and collaborations in order to identify needs, gaps in service and innovative programs. In the 70s, MBSCC helped create seven senior centers along the Concourse Corridor through the Mid-Bronx Interagency Coordinating Council. For nearly 40 years, MBSCC has provided services for older New Yorkers including comprehensive in-home services (home health care, personal care, and light housekeeping), meals-on-wheels, transportation, case management, case assistance, telephone reassurance and friendly home visits. Current programs include:
Project Homebound, developed by MBSCC in 1977 and funded by the New York City Department for the Aging, has been widely replicated by service organizations throughout the city. The program prevents the early institutionalization of the home-bound elderly by providing case management and direct services such as Meals-on-Wheels, transportation, escort service and telephone reassurance. Today the program delivers more than 170,000 meals and provides 10,000 trips to frail, ailing and disabled seniors annually.
Concourse Plaza Social Services, implemented in 1981, provides a range of social, medical and legal services, as well as cultural, educational and recreational activities for seniors residing in the Concourse Plaza and surrounding community.
Concourse Plaza Wellness Program, previously the "Healthy Seniors" program, is a new health and wellness program, funded by the NYC Department for the Aging. The Wellness Program offers a comprehensive array of programs to a diverse group of seniors and features several social settings, including our Concourse Cafe, 5,000 square foot outdoor roof garden, multi-purpose room/computer lab and our 6,000 square foot cafeteria and program space. These programs include nutrition workshops, weekly exercise and walking groups, weekly consultations and screenings with a certified nurse, entertainment and activities.
In 1987, MBC was selected by the New York City Department for the Aging to Administer the Project Work Prepared (PWP) Program in the South Bronx. Under MBC staff supervision, PWP workers, many of whom are public assistance recipients, provide housekeeping and personal care in-home services to over 250 elderly clients.
Comforting Care, implemented in 1977 as part of Project Homebound, provides quality home care services for the elderly. As a licensed home care services agency, our foundational principle is to maintain the elderly at home with dignity and independence, while providing a high level of care. We supply personal care aides, home health aides and housekeeping services to Medicaid and private pay clients.
Adult Day is an enhanced services program for seniors who may be physically frail or have early signs of cognitive impairment. Participants in this program engage in social, recreational and therapeutic activities designed to meet the individual needs and abilities of each member. We provide a watchful eye to intercede and prevent acute care situations that may involve hospitalizations.
