The Family Preservation Center (FPC) opened on the ground floor of MBSCC's landmark Andrew Freedman Home in 1998.  This Center provides comprehensive support services to enhance family stability and self-sufficiency through a "one-stop shop" approach.  Services are provided through the collaboration of MBSCC and other partnering organizations to include affordable child care, comprehensive case management, basic education and literacy, ESL, immigration services, community organizing, individual and family counseling, community health services, nutrition programs (WIC), in-home visiting services, youth services, pre-natal care and affordable housing for those living with HIV/AIDS. There are several support groups exclusively for Men, Women and Grandparents, all geared at providing the necessary tools and information to help caregivers parent successfully, while supporting one another in the process.

The FPC also houses MBSCC's Job Resource Center which provides employment training and job referrals to community members, as well as aTechnology Center that trains residents in basic computer skills. MBSCC is one of only nine organizations in New York State to receive a commitment of state funding to establish a Family Preservation and Support Center.

From human services to housing development, from economic revitalization to community empowerment, all the programs and initiatives of the Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council (MBSCC) are designed to accomplish the following goals:

  • To enhance the quality of life for residents of the South Bronx
  • To ensure they are afforded the opportunity for economic and social well-being that will enable them to remain in the community and live with dignity for themselves and their surroundings
  • To encourage them to become vocal, active and positive contributors to, and forces in their community

Freedman on the Concourse Lodging Facility

Situated just 20 minutes from New York's Times Square, yet nestled on a scenic avenue with quiet elegance, this charming. ten room, guest house is the perfect escape after exploring the city's shops, museums and local parks.

This Side of Paradise

Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council (MBSCC), one of the leading, not-for-profit, community development organizations in the Bronx recently hosted the exciting art exhibition, This Side of Paradise at the majestic Andrew Freedman on the Grand Concourse. The innovative show was curated by the art group, No Longer Empty and it showcased the works of 32 artists on the first and second floors of the palatial Andrew Freedman. Interactive, community-driven programming, panel discussions and electric dance performances rounded out this creative collaboration which ran through June 5th.
